The Daily News-Record                                             June 2014 – August 2015

Full-time features reporter for the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, Va. The position involved seeking out potential stories, finding sources and completing 4-5 articles a week with little oversight. Topics covered ranged from food features for the Flavor section, news features about how locals use websites like Airbnb and long-form human interest stories for the Weekend section about anything from the tiny house movement to a man with a 400-piece taxidermy collection.

U of I College of Veterinary Medicine                                 January 2013 – May 2014

Marketing and content creation for the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Tasks included writing articles for the quarterly journal, promoting events, contacting local media, writing press releases, creating posters and videos and taking portraits of staff and patients.                                                     June 2012 – May 2014

Writing and marketing for, an online startup that helps users discover independent restaurants in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. Tasks included writing stories, creating videos, updating social media, managing the events page, writing press releases, interviewing restaurant owners, developing marketing materials and planning for future scaling operations.

Smile Politely Magazine                                                  May 2013 – May 2014

Writing articles and taking photos for the culture section of Smile Politely, a Champaign-based online publication, on topics ranging from the local steampunk scene to 3D printers.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers                                            June 2011 – January 2012

Conducting research on forestry, ecosystems and NGOs for the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) in Champaign, Ill. Tasks included editing the writing of my boss who has worked for the Army Corps for more than 10 years.
